POLITICAL AND SERVICE EXPERIENCE:

  • Elected – School Board Trustee – at age of 19 in Edgewater, New Jersey
  • Elected – City Councilman – at age of 21 in Edgewater, New Jersey
  • Ran for Mayor in Edgewater, New Jersey at 25 years old and lost a close election by 6 votes
  • Elected back onto the Edgewater City Council at 26 years of age
  • Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Board Commissioner – 1999 – 2001
  • Founding member of the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation
  • President and founding member of the Alpharetta High School Foundation
  • Board Member – Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA
  • Reinhardt College Police Academy Advisory Board
  • Elected to the Alpharetta City Council November 2001 – Took office January 2002 and was re-elected and was serving my third term, before choosing now to run for Mayor of Alpharetta

FAMILY: Wife – Ann Marie, with three (3) children (Jenna, 22 – Douglas, 20 – Matthew, 18)

Doug married his wife Ann Marie, a little over 25 years ago.  Both Ann Marie and Doug met while attending college at Iona College, New Rochelle, New York.  After college graduation, they dated for another couple of years before getting engaged to be married.

Doug and Ann Marie got married and found their first home in Edgewater, New Jersey.

Doug and Ann Marie have three children, Jenna, Douglas and Matthew.

Jenna attended a year at Chattahoochee High School, until Alpharetta High School opened in 2004.  She then completed her last three years of high school at Alpharetta High School.

Jenna currently attends Arizona State University, where she will graduate this coming December with a degree in Family and Human Development.  Jenna is currently interning with the Teen Lifeline, as part of her studies.

Douglas also attended and graduated from Alpharetta High School.  He is currently a student at Georgia Tech and his major is Biomedical Engineering.  Doug studied abroad as part of the Georgia Tech international studies program this past summer at Oxford University in London, England.

Matthew currently is a senior at Alpharetta High School and will graduate this coming May 2012.  Matthew is a varsity football player and is looking to play football at the college level.  Matt is applying to attend the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and other universities.
